What is CBD?

Cannabidiol or CBD, as it is more commonly known, is a part of a class of chemicals found in the cannabis plant known as cannabinoids. These chemicals interact with a system within the human body known as the endocannabinoid system (ECS). The ECS refers to a collection of receptors found both in the brain and elsewhere in the body.

Is CBD legal?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is legal in the UK and all Biosportart products are legal in the UK. Because the CBD used in Biosportart products does not come from cannabis and does not come into contact with cannabis materials at any point, it does contain THC and is therefore legal in any quantity in the UK.

Is CBD legal in Sport?

Cannabidiol (CBD) is legal according to WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) and Global DRO (Global Drug Reference Online). CBD is the only cannabinoid that is legal according to WADA and Global DRO.

UK Anti-Doping accepts the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) Anti-doping Code.

“Cannabidiol (CBD) is not prohibited. However, athletes should be aware that some CBD products extracted from cannabis plants may also contain THC that could result in a positive test for a prohibited cannabinoid.”

Why does the gel sometimes have a gritty texture?

PureForm CBD, just like CBD isolates derived from cannabis, are in a crystalline powder. Due to our high concentration of CBD (3.6%) in Biosportart CBD gels, these CBD crystals can bind together in the final product. This is perfectly normal and will immediately disappear if rubbed.

Why are Biosportart gels more expensive than other CBD products?

Biosportart 2000mg CBD Gel contains 2,000 milligrams of pure CBD. That is two to five times stronger than competing CBD products, meaning it is more effective with less. Furthermore, PureForm CBD extremely low variance in purity and quality, and does not require post-synthesis purification. It does not contain other residual cannabis compounds. Cannabis derived CBD can vary greatly between suppliers and even between batches from the same supplier. Our base material costs are 2-3 times higher than competing products with cannabis extracted CBD.

What is synthesized bio-identical CBD?

Synthesized CBD is CBD that is not extracted from the cannabis plant, but rather ‘synthesized’ from other base materials using organic chemistry. In the case of PureForm Global, the base material is an citrus (orange) terpene. Synthesized bio-identical CBD is identical in every way to naturally occurring CBD that is itself synthesized by the cannabis sativa plant.

The common dietary supplement Vitamin C (Ascorbic Acid), an essential nutrient involved in the repair of tissue and immune system function is perhaps the most commonly consumed synthetic compound. Numerous studies have proven that synthetic vitamin C provides the same absorption rates as vitamin C in fruit, such as:

A Randomized Steady-State Bioavailability Study of Synthetic versus Natural (Kiwifruit-Derived) Vitamin CNutrients, 2013
http://www.mdpi.com/2072-6643/5/9/3684

While the word ‘synthesized’ may sound less desirable than a plant extraction, the process actually uses less chemicals than solvent and gas extraction. There is no risk of residual fertilizers and herbicides used to grow the plant and no risk of mycotoxins – potentially deadly toxins produced by fungi that often colonize cannabis crops. The synthesis of CBD is a key step in broader clinical adoption of CBD.

PureForm CBD is bio-identical to CBD and not an analog (acting on the same receptor)
PureForm CBD it is identical to cannabis derived CBD and interacts with the Endocannabinoid system (ECS) in precisely the same way as the naturally occurring molecule.

What does bio-identical mean?

Bio-identical is a way of saying identical. It is identical, much in the way that the vitamin C (ascorbic acid) purchased as a supplement in your local store, is identical to that found in oranges. PureForm CBD is CBD and all the effects that you have read about CBD and any future inclusion of CBD products by mainstream companies will depend on this level of purity. Indeed, their CBD is rapidly becoming the reference material for measuring CBD purity and will soon be the primary supplier of cannabinoids for clinical research.

What is CBD good for? And why don’t make any claims like other websites do?

Biosportart intends to be a long term producer of high-quality formulations for European and Asian sports and athletics market.

Biosportart does not make any claims our website, because despite a very large amount of anecdotal data, and increasing amounts of research, there is not yet the clinical data to support such claims, and therefore any claims could be construed as to violate European law.

The absence of clinical data is largely due to the challenges in isolating CBD from cannabis, the inherence inconsistencies in the final product. Biosportart are in discussions to PureForm to begin clinical trials using their CBD in Europe.

Many suppliers currently making claims will likely disappear if and when the regulators seek to enforce existing laws around supported claims. Due to the high inconsistency of cannabis CBD supply, it is likely that many of these suppliers are already violating UK law.

Is CBD safe?

Biosportart products are safe if the instructions on the label are followed

***FOR EXTERNAL USE ONLY*** Apply a thin layer on clean skin as needed. For best results do not rub in. Keep out of eyes, open wounds and mucus membranes. Do not apply more than six times per day. Consult your doctor before use if pregnant, breastfeeding, taking a prescription drug, or have a serious medical condition. Store in a cool dry place. KEEP OUT OF REACH OF CHILDREN

CBD has been on the market in different countries for a number of years. Unlike THC, it is not psychoactive or mood altering and does not impair cognitive ability.
The World Health Organization report on CBD stated:

“Across a number of controlled and open label trials CBD of the potential therapeutic effects of CBD it is generally well tolerated, with a good safety profile.

Expert Committee on Drug Dependence Thirty-ninth Meeting
Geneva, 6-10 November 2017

In clinical studies of Epidiolex, an orally administered FDA approved CBD medicine, some patients did withdraw due to interactions with other medications and others with abnormal liver activity. There is no evidence that this applies to externally applied creams and gels such as Biosportart products, but you should always follow the product usage guidelines and consult your doctor if your doctor before use if pregnant, breastfeeding, taking a prescription drug, or have a serious medical condition.

Is CBD addictive?

CBD is not psychoactive or mood altering and is not known to be addictive.

While the number of studies is limited, the evidence from well controlled human experimental research indicates that CBD is not associated with abuse potential.

What if I have an allergic or other negative reaction to Biosportart products?

ALWAYS SEEK IMMEDIATE MEDICAL ATTENTION IF YOU BELIEVE YOUR HEALTH TO BE AT IMMEDIATE RISK

Biosportart has not received any reports of allergic or other negative reactions. But should a negative reaction occur, cease use immediately and wash the affected area with water.
Please report any allergic reactions to admin@biosportart.com and include the product name and the batch code on the underside of the bottle.

How should I use CBD creams and gels?

Biosportart CBD creams and gels should be used according to the label (shown below). They should be used externally only, with a small layer spread over the muscle or joint area. For best results do not rub in the cream, but let it dry naturally. It should not be applied on open wounds and mucus membranes and not used more than six times per day.

What is Absolute Zero THC?

By Absolute Zero THC, we mean there is absolutely zero THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) in any of our formulations. We don’t mean less than 0.3, or even 0.001%.

Biosportart products contain 0.000% all cannabinoids except CBD, and that includes THC, CBG, CBA, CBN, CBC, CBL, etc.

At no point does PureForm CBD come into contact with cannabis. We only use GMP certified contract manufacturers that agree only to use CBD from synthesized sources. So there is no chance of cross contamination at any point in our production cycle.

What about other cannabinoids?

Certain other cannabinoids, such as CBG are beginning to show clinical promise and we are watching this closely. But for them to be used in any future Biosportart product, the following would need to be both legal according to local law and removed from WADA’s (World Anti-Doping Agency) prohibited substance list. We will never violate local law or compromise the careers of our customers.

Biosportart products do not claim any ‘entourage effect’, are not ‘broad spectrum’ in any sense, do not contain THC or any other cannabinoids, except CBD.

What do you mean by High Performance and High Concentration CBD?

Biosportart is proud to say that despite our focus on the sports and athletics (where drug testing is common) our products are amongst the highest concentration on the market.

This is only because our products are Absolute Zero THC and thus, regardless of the CBD content, there is no risk that residual THC will show up in urine or blood tests, nor that we could violate law regarding cannabis materials.

High Concentration CBD is our market differentiator and we will continue to work with our suppliers to lead in this area, at a price that is fair and sustainable.

Do Biosportart products contain CBD isolate?

Technically CBD isolate means the CBD has been isolated (i.e. from other cannabinoids). Because PureForm creates pure CBD alone it’s technically not an isolate, but is treated like a high purity isolate in the marketplace. In fact, for some labs PureForm CBD has become the reference material against which the purity of CBD isolate is tested.

What does broad/full spectrum CBD mean?

‘Full spectrum’ CBD is usually hemp/cannabis oil, containing all the cannabinoids, THC, CBD, CBN, CBD, etc (the spectrum refers to the spectrum of cannabinoids.

‘Broad spectrum’ is market terminology for ‘CBD + other cannabinoids’ but with only trace elements of THC. Broad spectrum products are legal by United States federal law if they contain less than 0.3% THC (by dry weight) and by UK law if they contain less than 0.2% THC or 1 milligram per container.

Broad spectrum’ CBD products have a very high chance of violating UK law and athletes using these products would violate WADA regulations.

Biosportart products do not claim any ‘entourage effect’, are not ‘broad spectrum’ in any sense, do not contain THC or any other cannabinoids, except CBD.

What is the entourage effect?

The entourage effect is a loosely defined term that seeks to explain some of the effects that ‘broad spectrum CBD’ are said to produce that CBD isolate alone cannot reproduce (in market terminology ‘broad spectrum’ means ‘CBD + other cannabinoids’ often including THC).

THC is certainly much stronger than CBD and therefore ‘the entourage effect’ could, in most cases, be attributed to the presence of THC. It is also true that high purity CBD isolate is difficult and costly to extract and ‘broad spectrum’ products are significantly cheaper in the marketplace.

CBD products claiming an ‘entourage effect’ are very likely ‘broad spectrum’. ‘Broad spectrum’ products have a very high chance of violating UK law and athletes using these products would violate WADA regulations.

Biosportart products do not claim any ‘entourage effect’, are not ‘broad spectrum’ in any sense, do not contain THC or any other cannabinoids, except CBD.

Why isn’t CBD more widely available?

Quite simply, major pharmaceuticals, reputable supplement manufactures, and even major cosmetic formulators can only work with pure, consistent ingredients, especially ingredients that depend on the effect of an active ingredient. But an effect cannot be reliably measured without a consistent ingredient.  Currently, CBD extracted from cannabis can be inconsistent in quality, with multiple tests run on the same batch of CBD isolate can produce inconsistent results.

Synthesized CBD products such as PureForm CBD have none of these purity and consistency challenges. PureForm CBD will undoubtedly play a vital role in the future adoption of CBD in mainstream medicine and Biosportart is proud to be an early partner with a company with such disruptive potential.

Should I travel with CBD products?

Sadly, at this time our advice remains ‘no’.

While Biosportart products do not contain any amount of THC whatsoever, many jurisdictions (such as Australia) continue to prohibit all cannabinoids, including CBD.

Even in those jurisdictions where CBD is legal, authorities have become aware of the high variability of purity and/or the mislabeling of many cannabis derived CBD products. While CBD has been synthesized for some time, it has not been widely available in consumer products and many border agent / customs policies mean that merely having CBD present on the label of a personal item could lead to delays, confiscation, or worse.

What is a synthetic cannabinoid analog?

PureForm CBD is not a synthetic cannabinoid analog.

Analogs are chemicals that are similar in structure (but not identical) to other drugs, but can have very different biochemical, or pharmacological properties.

Certain notorious synthetic THC analogs are unfortunately often referred to as synthetic cannabinoids when they are in fact synthetic cannabinoid analogs. These drugs have been designed to be different to the naturally occurring versions and are also often called ‘designer drugs’, such as K2 and Spice. They were designed to circumvent laws by being different in chemical structure to THC, while acting on the same receptors, often to more severe extent. They do not occur in nature.

PureForm CBD is identical (also referred to as bio-identical) to the cannabidiol (CBD) phytocannabinoid that is naturally present in the cannabis sativa plant. PureForm CBD is the same as pure natural CBD, acts on the same receptors in exactly the same way as cannabis derived CBD, and is just as safe.
