CBD and UK Law

Biosportart products are fully compliant with UK law and EU cosmetic regulations.

As the Home Office states, CBD is legal in the UK:

“CBD as an isolated substance, in its pure form, would not be controlled under the MDA 1971 / MDR 2001.”
UK Home Office Factsheet – Cannabis, CBD and other cannabinoids

The PureForm CBD used in Biosportart products is extremely pure. The manufactured specification is 99.5% pure cannabidiol (with the remainder being limonene food safe citrus terpene). Our own tests on PureForm’s product have been 99.8% or greater. The Home Office fact sheet goes on the clarify:

If a CBD ‘product’ contained any controlled cannabinoids, unintentionally or otherwise (e.g. THC or THC-V), then it is highly likely that the product would be controlled.”

As PureForm CBD is identical to pure CBD isolate. Therefore, Biosportart products do contain THC, CBN or any other cannabinoids other than CBD, and therefore fully comply with UK law. The document goes on to state that CBD may be extracted from locally licensed or overseas derived hemp that is less than 0.2% THC on a dry-weight basis. This is why the majority of CBD vendors in the UK claim their CBD to be legal, because it contains less than 0.2% THC – although this is not actually stated in law. The prevailing legal opinion is that products containing less than 1 milligram of THC are likely to be considered legal in the UK. Because Biosportart products do not contain any THC (0.000%), we can add a far greater amount of CBD per container without any risk of violating UK law.

Biosportart products do not contain THC, CBN or any other cannabinoids other than CBD, and are therefore legal in the UK.

Absolute Zero THC

“It is our understanding that it is very difficult to isolate pure CBD, and in our experience many products in fact do not fully disclose their contents or provide a full spectrum analysis at an appropriate level of sensitivity to accurately and consistently determine their true content or control status.”

In the last few decades, no naturally occurring compounds have generated as much interest, or show as much therapeutic promise, as cannabidiol (CBD). It is due to this therapeutic promise, and the subsequent explosion in research, that CBD has been specifically permitted in many jurisdictions where all cannabinoids have been illegal, such as the UK and the USA.

“CBD as an isolated substance, in its pure form, would not be controlled under the MDA 1971 / MDR 2001.

Because Biosportart products contain PureForm CBD, a bio-identical CBD synthesized from citrus material using organic chemistry, they do not contain THC, CBN, or any other cannabinoids in any form. Biosportart products fully comply with UK law.

Following the above statement clarifying the legality of pure CBD, there is a comment that highlights the challenges that producers and consumers of hemp derived CBD face.

The Home Office is right, CBD is extremely difficult to extract from cannabis without being contaminated with unwanted residual cannabinoids, such as THC. There is a high variability between suppliers and even between batches from the same supplier. Many products that comply with US law (less than 0.3% THC on a dry weight basis) do not comply with UK law (0.2% THC or 1 milligram per container).

Unlike almost all products on the global market, PureForm CBD is not extracted from cannabis, but rather it is synthesized from a citrus base material. Like vitamin C and other health supplements, synthetic CBD is identical to naturally occurring CBD, yet poses none of the variability of extraction. This is the reason that Biosportart uses PureForm CBD exclusively and is available in more markets globally than our competitors.
Furthermore, a spectrum analysis for every batch of our products is available on our website:
